Graciosa Q Teixeira

Dr. Graciosa Teixeira is a Principal Investigator at the Institute of Orthopaedic Research and Biomechanics at Ulm University Hospital in Germany. She is also a lecturer at both the Medical Faculty of Ulm University and Ulm University of Applied Sciences. Graciosa received her bachelor's and master’s degrees in biomedical engineering from the Catholic University of Portugal. Since 2017, she holds a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Porto, Portugal. In 2018, she received the prestigious Julia Polak European Doctoral Award from the European Society for Biomaterials for her doctoral thesis. Her research interests in fibrocartilaginous tissues such as the intervertebral disc include exploring the pathomechanisms of degeneration, investigating the role of the immune system, and developing ex vivo models for tissue engineering studies. She has contributed to over 30 peer-reviewed publications and more than 100 conference presentations. Her work has been internationally recognised with scientific awards including the GRAMMER/European Spine Journal Award in 2021. Currently, Graciosa is coordinating research projects focused on intervertebral disc repair/regeneration.
