James Iatridis
James C. Iatridis, PhD is Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Orthopaedics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City. James’ research is focused on the prevention and treatment of degenerated and painful intervertebral discs. He has published over 100 papers in the orthopaedics and engineering, and has won several awards including the US Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers in 2008 and the North American Spine Society Henry Farfan Award in Basic Science Research in 2015. James received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University in 1996 with Dr. Van Mow as his PhD Advisor and then became a Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation at the University of Vermont with Dr. Ian Stokes until 1999. James became faculty member in the School of Engineering at University of Vermont from 1999-2010. In 2010, James became Professor and Vice Chair for Research in the Department of Orthopaedics at Mount Sinai. At Mount Sinai, he directs a highly collaborative spine research program, has created and co-directs a new graduate program on ‘Design, Technology & Entrepreneurship,’ and serves as Associate Director of the Mount Sinai Institute of Technology. Dr. Iatridis has a long commitment to service in orthopaedics and engineering and is currently Chair of the Spine Section of the Orthopaedic Research Society, previously served as Chair of the Skeletal Biology, Structure and Regeneration (SBSR) study section of the NIH, and serves on the editorial boards of several journals.
